Shame on AAPL for wasting its resources on manufacturing this utterly useless machine.

No, shame on you for buying it without realizing what you were buying. Your lack of research into your purchase is not Apple's fault.

Your complaint is tantamount to bitching about the handling of your new Ferrari because you didn't order the performance wheels.

Things you knew before your purchase:

1. The mouse it came with

2. The keyboard it came with

3. It had no internal modem

4. No USB laser printers are available

Because it's a pain doesn't make the G3 a bad machine. Whatever happened to "Think Different"?

Ho hum,

Mark

John,

It sounds to me like your main complaints are all about peripheral availability. This is a temporary problem, and is the result of Apple's decision to lead the market rather than follow it. (It also may be at least partly the result of a smaller peripheral market where you are, although I don't know this to be true. There are USB-compatible modems and laser printers available in the US.)

I certainly can understand your decision--and your frustration--as a consumer. However, as an investor, your time horizon for making a decision and seeing a return on your investment is probably somewhat different than the immediate needs you have as a consumer. While Apple's decision to push the hardware envelope will undoubtedly cause them to lose a few sales in the short-run, their over-all, long-term product strategy still looks very good to me. Just my 2 cents but, FWIW, I'm holding onto my shares.

John makes a good point.

The new blue G3's are for department level machines, not for power users or SOHO. I feel left out, too. And, no USB port on Powerbook tops it all off.

On the other hand, just ordered a revb iMac for a friend, and these are CHEAP. Added memory and the imation drive, and it's a decent package for not much money.

I would have sold her my revA iMac (my downstairs "backup" machine) cheap, but I like it too much.
