I'll bet there are people on SI peeing in their pants over nothing.

<Intel should know better. They have been studying data security for years, and the company should be familiar with the treacherous political climate.>

Perhaps. I used to be an intern for Intel over five years ago in Folsom, CA. This was right in the middle of the Pentium FDIV fiasco. After Prof. Nicely discovered the bug, Intel stuck with the "technically correct" explanation that the vast majority of Pentium users will not be affected by the bug. After the big firestorm of controversy and Intel's final reserval, most of us at Intel breathed a big sigh of relief.

My boss at that time said that this was the perfect opportunity to buy some INTC shares. Of course, I was dumb intern back then; I had already spent most of my money on video games and skiing, so I missed out. Boy, was I really dumb, now that I know how high INTC has risen since then.

Looking back, the Pentium FDIV thing only created a massive blip in the trend of earnings growth. If Intel continues to hold a hard-line stance and the controversy builds, we can see yet another buying opportunity here. Then if Intel reverses its position, we investors will be the ones who make out like bandits.
