I am no big Intel booster (not until it runs Mac OS), but I am a big Intel investor. Why? Because they are the best financially run company in high tech today.

I don't understand the PIII-ID flap. Come on. Every ethernet chip has a unique ID. It's software accessible. If the browsers exposed it, everyone using Ethernet (which will increase drastically as people move to ADSL/Cable) would have the same issues.

How hard do you really think it will be to implement, in software, a patch that prevents the browser from picking up the processor ID?

If it's customer demanded, then the browsers will have an option to turn it off. No major site developer is going to rely on it, since it isn't cross-platform anyway. However, it will be a big deal on corporate intranets, and that is who Intel designed it for. Not really for browsers, but for software licensing, etc.

Looks like a big buying opportunity to me. I'm thinking about placing an order in at 125.
