taxman, you know what MSFT had to say about timetable for Office-
that there is no delay and release is in the 2nd quarter as they had planned. In any case, it probably is better to release mid quarter so that it affects earnings in more than one quarter meaning we get great June and October quarters.

Microsoft's Office 2000 Delayed Till June, TechWeb Reports

Redmond, Washington, Feb. 24 (Bloomberg) - Microsoft Corp. has delayed the retail availability of its next-generation office suite of software until June 4, TechWeb online news reported. Retailers said they previously understood that Office 2000 would be available in April or May and the slippage to June was an inconvenience. Contacted about the TechWeb report, Microsoft denied any delay, saying Office 2000 will be widely available in the second quarter as previously planned.

In November, Microsoft said Office 2000 would be shipped to manufacturers at the end of March and widely distributed in the second quarter, without giving more specific dates. (www.techweb.com)

Oops. That puts RTM and the publicity push right in the midst of the trial resumption. I was hoping it would happen during the break. But then again, perhaps the distractions will be worthwhile. The techweb story you cited shows just how important the publicity will be: It points out that Office is as important to the company's bottom line as Windows.

Office 2000 will likely stop programming by 3/15, it takes another 2 months to manufacturing the product. There's nothing to worry about, MSFT has the revenue from the initial sales of Windows 98 to offset any revenues shortcoming in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th quarter.
