Adam, I am not easy to understand, sorry. My fault.

If I pony up $1500 for a new blue g3, adding $150 for a serial port so I can use my $150 modem just GALLS.

I can't really justify ISDN to myself, and cable doesn't yet offer service- it's in the works I guess. And the mac modem is inferior to my USRobotics modem, at least on my phone line.

Well, a powerbook would be nice, as I would prefer the "portable desktop" - but again, it galls to have to have to buy a peripheral to get USB. In that case, I can use whichever modem I want- internal or external. The powerbook serial port makes that possible.

So, I bet the new laptops lose the serial port, too. Then I WILL need a usb modem- they are expensive from 3com-$275, I hope that drops as usb gets popular.

My point is, I feel caught in the middle. Too big to be exclusively on my iMac, too cheap to buy what would make me happy. My own damn fault. Almost getting ready to think about buying a thinkpad- just for checking cross-platform junk, Access development at home ( the database part of Office you don't get on the mac). It would probably make me miserable.

R.

As much as I like the thinkpad, it still has Windows- and I just know it would drive me nuts.
