The proposal for vouchers in Oakland was $700. per child. Not even half of what it actually costs to send a kid to private school. Also, there is no incentive whatsoever for any private school to take a "problem" kid or a less than brilliant kid. No reforms proposed to the awful Oakland school system, just this lame voucher proposal from the right. Of course they truly believe that prayer is the solution for the problems of the inner city public schools. ha ha

>>but you sound like a reasonable moderate...<<

Excuse me, I have well formulated opinions therefore by definition cannot be a "moderate".

You obviously do not understand what a voucher is. What I said in my post was that poor individuals could receive a voucher (read:transfer payment) to send their kids to the school of their choice. I didn't specify private school, btw. For example, they could send their children to the closest "quality" school, whether private or public. Perhaps you would be more accepting if we called them "needs based scholarships". You can send your children to any public school you wish in my area (outside of your particular district) but it will cost you. People do it here all the time.

Conservatives want to destroy public schools? How ridiculous, more accurately stated would be to say we want good schools rewarded and bad schools either improved or shut down.
