Hi, Jill. Glad you found your way over. This thread is based on Geoffrey Moore's "Gorilla Game, an investor's guide to picking winners in high technology". If you check my profile, there is a link provided where you can get the technical definitions of Gorilla, King, Prince, Ape, Chimp, etc. There is also a link to the G&K Index, where we track candidates for our G&K Portfolios.

As far as SAP is concerned, I'm not sure they are a Gorilla. You'll find we spend about 25% of our time arguing how to classify our selections (how many angels can stand on a pin stuff). The object is to identify Gorillas and Kings so we can add them to our portfolios. The only known large sector Gorillas identified to date are msft, csco, and dell.

Welcome, Jill. You won't find any flame wars here, thank goodness <g>.

Frank

Re: SAP
Quote from the book:

Page 69: "SAP is a gorilla in the enterprise-wide business software."

There are about 10 more mentions of SAP in the book, concerning the fact that they are the Gorilla in back office software, and own the large application market.

The question today is: Does this market still have tornado growth available, or is if now full. SAP's sales of new large systems, and its stock price, has fallen. I have owned SAP, made money on it, have it on my watch list, and am waiting until after 2K to see if I should get back in.
