Re: Forbes article

How to lie with numbers:

Lesson #1 -- Plot the data in terms of the number of units sold rather than revenue. That way you can obscure the fact that the big seasonal bounce is due to cheap PCs. That leads the reader to believe that there is no difference between an $800 Packard Bell and and Dell server.

Lesson #2 -- do not plot the data on semilog paper, and while you're at it, plot Dell's sales as one line and the rest of the PC industry as the other. That way you can completely obscure the underlying growth.

Lesson #3 -- Don't seasonally adjust, and while you're at it start the plot with Q1 (the competition's worst quarter) and end with Q4 -- the competition's best quarter.

My next math lesson will be on how you can make 3% revenue growth look negative.

CTC

Re: Forbes ragazine

Ever listened to Mr. Forbes speak?

Ever listened to Mr. Dell speak?

Based on that observation, why would anyone take Forbes (or the ragazine,) seriously?

What has forbez done lately?

Who would make a better president?

The best part about the article was the graph!
