News: Hyundai, NEC Tied up for Memory Business

02/26(±Ý) 16:09

Hyundai Electronics, which had agreed last month to hold semicon patents in
common with NEC, the Japanese chip maker has decided to cooperate with that
company in development, production and sales of NEC's highly advanced
memory, VCM(Virtual Channel Memory).

They determined to start continuous technical exchanges this month and conclude
details on the VCM business which is expected to succeed
SDRAM(Synchronous), together with DDR(Double Data Rate) DRAM and
Rambus DRAM.

It evaluates system performance by 20% or 30% and economizes the power
consumption by 30% over the current memories through storing data inside it
temporarily. Addition to that, it is reported to require no special equipment
installation to the existing plant.

At present, NEC is producing its sample and Taiwanese chipset big 3, BIA, SIS
and ALI have agreed to develop VCM supporting chipset.

Hyundai, which had adhered to individual business so far said that it would
release its commercial product in the 2nd half of the year with starting its
development this month.
