Yesterday in San Francisco Alan told the Robertson Stephens conference the company would be using the war chest for acquisitions. In cases where companies ask for financing --- referring now to wireless --- they most likely will use their partnership with Siemens in much the same way Lucent and others are doing now.

In Cisco's case, they've used this formula in cases where they needed the financing muscle to win the contract. They did it at USWest and in that case it was an entre, not a guarantee of follow-on business. It doesn't say they won't get it. Just that it was their way to get into a market they're desperate to enter.

How many carriers can afford to bring in a forklift and start from the ground up? And how many carriers can Cisco finance?
