Keep in mind that Philips also has to assume VLSI's debt, so they would actually pay more than $9. I don't trust Stein after he screwed me and other shareholders on the LSI deal last summer. From the reaction in the stock so far, many others don't trust this deal either. As has been noted, the main difference between this deal and the LSI deal is that this one is in the public domain and the LSI deal was behind closed doors. Still, I don't doubt that Stein could kill this deal too, and if he does, the stock has a lot of downside risk.

Yes, it doesn't make sense for me to close out those puts I wrote. They will expire worthless. Even VLSI shouldn't screw this up so badly that the stock becomes worth less than 15 again. uh...Right?
