"I get the listing of messages WITHOUT any of them opening unless I click on them."

same here, eagle. but the prob arises when i want to delete one of the messages on the list without opening it. in order to delete, one must select (or highlight) the message. it is at that point that my mail opens in communicator 4.5..... when i try to click on it (either left or right) to highlight it. i.e., one click opens.

and i agree that it's bizarre that netscape help doesn't do a better job. their first reply was inapplicable, their second reply was wrong.

i'm also looking at the fact that you have 4.05 and i have 4.5 as a reason why comparing our settings may not be effective. shrug.

thanks for the input,

mark

"Therefore I can delete before reading."

please tell me how you delete before reading. does it involve highlighting, or selecting the message? cause if it does, it is at that point that my message opens... the instant i click on it once.

i discovered why i wasn't able to delete email witout opening it!

i went to the netscape user groups and got my answer. :)

the key was to click on the dimpled bar between the headers and the displayed message. once i did that, i was then able to highlight a header without it opening. once highlighted, i can then delete.

funny that what it took to get me fixed up involves temporarily switching to a two-pane window, and there are only a couple of three-pane window settings to choose from in preferences.

i'm sure you netscape fans already know how to get to these user groups, but if any of you don't, here's a link.

thanks very much to those who pitched in here on this thread to try to resolve this dumb little prob for me. :)
