Fred Here's the post...... ====================== The folks over on SI are questioning Novell's ability to come up with a business model that will attrack the necessary developers and energy from them to innovate Novell's server-centric platform "space" they have created with NDS, etc. Here's the solution to all this. EVERYONE, PLEASE STOP TRYING TO PLACE NOVELL AS A PEG INSIDE THE OLD BUSINESS MODEL..... What do I mean by this? What I mean is that in this "new virtual space" where the digital-carrying fiber, the internet, wireless and broadband are all beginning to fuse, NOBODY can control the who/what/when/why/and how all this stuff will shake out. Exploding Bandwidth is the soluition. The collective innate energy, mind and spirit of this new biologically driven and shaped network will resist ALL attempts to strongarm and control the "how/where and why" it develops. LOSS CONTROL is the future. Give it up man! We are in a "new world" and the best thing Novell's management can do is assist in any way possible the growth and development - as a true shared and neutral partner - of this biological beast of openness and the "higher power" and energy that has taken over. There's are many people who are beginning to get a sense of the power and locked-fusioln of energy behind this vision. Think about this thought for a moment: <<"The value of an Internet community will not be determined by its ability to scale up to millions of people, but by its ability to empower the individual!" >> That's the essence of what's going on right now. Companies across the world are buying Virtual white elephants on the Internet right now in there attempt to consolidate the internet using the same old buisiness model - grow by aquiring, controlling, locking out and then gradually squeezing and destroying competitors. The collective power of this new force of FREEDOM on the Internet will NOT allow the net to consolidate. The Internet is finally enabling the energy behind the forces of freedom to arbitrage the energy behind the old business models right smack away to new virtual domains which honor the humility behind the essence of pure capitalism: service to others. From here on out, if Barry Diller or anyone else thinks they can buy and consolidate their way into creating giant virtual sucking vacume portals that treat us like so many cattle in their quest for the goal of seemless distribution.....well I'm sorry to burst Barry's bubble - but he came to the wong party wearing the wrong suit. Innately and privately, people will find their OWN homes in cyberspace and there is not a thing the Diller's and Gate's of the world can do to get into the core of the mind behind the "why's" behind these individual decisions. Finding your "why" and the collecitve is the key for how all this plays out. Novell's "new business model" has to be rooted in humbly finding people's "why". Once you find your "why" - money, power, politics and everything else becomes secondary. Why? Because you've discovered the values that really drive your quest in life. The old business model was rooted in mechical honor and respect for "HOW": - how to we compete against those guys - how can we outsmart them - how can we outsell them - how can we steal their ideas - how can we backdoor them - how can we spin them - how can we crush them -how can we blow them away So you simply hired people to FOLLOW directions to execute your "how". What's the problem with this approach? Most oftentimes - and dispite all the lipservice to values, etc in the world - "HOW" has NOTHING to do with "WHY". The world is moving in "Internet Time" on this magical quest for the discovery of "why" - it's not a corporate quest....it's about the individual, period. The fusion of "whys" is and will continue to take place out there - all in a techno-tribal virtual kind of way..... That's why my main focus is on technologies that can more efficiently enable the individual to embrace IP-based connectivity enhancing apps that bring more productivity, power, choice and flexibility to the individual. This IS the next frontier and it WILL be buried in this incredible fusion of energy that will explode as the fiber, bandwidth, broadband and wireless worlds all biologically combine into a seemless world of connectivity. We will be there when bandwidth eventually becomes "smart". Novell is a great horse to ride in this HUGE, MASSIVE QUEST. Novell is THE GREATEST INTERNET PLAY ON THE PLANET! The world is still asleep for the awesome power behind the space it's entering. Good luck. GO!
