Daily Bulletin - Tech Tremors, IWM, ARP, MMTI

February 26, 1999

The Market

Unfortunately for equity investors, an end to the recent weakness
in bonds was not reflected in stocks today. Instead, markets were
sideswiped by a number of respected analysts coming out almost
in unison with warnings of general technology-sector weakness
and downgrades on specific bell-weather technology issues.
Strong U.S. economic data also rattled interest-rate-sensitive
investors. The resulting sell off dragged down major U.S. indices.

The tech-laden Nasdaq Composite index led the drop, falling 38.79
points to 2,288.03, but the Dow Jones industrial average also
shrank 59.76 points to 9,306.58, and the S&P 500 index shed 6.69
points to 1,238.33,

Canadian indices, on the other hand, managed to end the day with small gains in what is likely a reflection of the
fact that they failed to rally as strongly as their U.S. counterparts on the last few months. If a correction occurs, it
is reasonable to expect the heaviest losses would occur where we have seen the biggest gains. The TSE 300
Composite index gained 5.99 points to 6312.69, and the VSE Composite extended its modest win streak to three
days, gaining 0.74 points to 411.21.

Infowave Software [IWM:VSE]
-- Top Analyst's Comments Start a Wave

An interview with top wireless expert Andrew Seybold available at StockHouse.com appears to have lit a fire
under IWM today. In the interview, which looked at future growth in the wireless communications market,
Seybold included IWM together with Research In Motion [RIM:TSE] (closed today at $13.40/sh) as examples of
Canadian companies pioneering "smart Internet connectivity" which he believes will be "the next big thing".

Seybold made several very positive statements about IWM and its Office Enabler(TM), but we bet that what
really caught investors attention today was his observation that smaller companies like Infowave are "probably
going to be acquired by somebody" in the long run. Nothing like a little takeover talk to perk investor interest!

Because the interview was been picked up by various websites (see techmall.com and media outlets,
there is an excellent chance today's excitement could carry over into next week, and with all those news eyes on
IWM, a significant news release or two could spark quite the rally.

Although IWM closed up only 5 cents at $1.36 owing to what looked like a large forced sale in the closing
minutes, it traded around $1.45 for most of the day, an especially impressive display given the weakness in the
wider technology sector today. The Insider Group is looking forward to a very exciting month of March for IWM
shareholders.

Argentina Gold [ARP:VSE]
-- Advances on New Assays

ARP gained $0.26 to close at $4.36 today following the release of the latest drill results from the company's
Veladero project in Argentina. There were some more encouraging reverse-circulation-drill results from the Filo
Frederico target which continued to expand its size and show mineable grades, but the second diamond-drill hole
from the Amable target was probably the real market mover.

Because the Veladero deposit contains a substantial component of coarse gold, reverse-circulation (RC) drilling
can underestimate grades and solid drill cores are needed to give a truer picture of what lies below. Like the first
diamond drill hole, the partial results from the second hole again suggest that the RC results have substantially
underestimated the gold resource Veladero.

Barrick [ABX:TSE,NYSE] obviously knew what they were doing when they tried an early takeover attempt.
Luckily for shareholders, the bid failed.

MicroMem Technologies [MMTI:OTC-BB]
-- Update on Coverage

A reader of the Daily Bulletin has expressed some concern over the disappearance of MicroMem from the
Insider's Quote Screen. The truth is that the company's symbol change caused a glitch with the Quote Screen
software, and then when we noticed it, the Insider Group decided to reevaluate our regular coverage of the
company.

MMTI owns a technology with undeniably massive potential. Their memory chips could one day be the standard
for cell phone and other small portable electronics. This is why we first mentioned MMTI, and it is why we STILL
think it will be a big success for shareholders down the road. Indeed, the share price already spiked to more than
200% above its price when we first mentioned it.

Ultimately, however, our decision to suspend regular coverage of the MMTI was based on the fact that the
Insider Group does not have unlimited resources, and because our source on MMTI was erratic at best, we just
decided to focus on other more "forthcoming" companies and sources. Remember, the Quote Screen should
never be interpreted as a list of "recommended" companies, rather it is almost literally a duplicate of the quote
screens the Insider Group monitors on a daily basis. The Insider Group frequently reviews options that will help
us increase our research capacity, but for now we think we do pretty well.
