China slams U.S. satellite ban, defence plan

BEIJING, Feb 25 (Reuters) - China lashed out at the United States on Thursday over its decision to block a satellite sale to a Chinese-led group and denounced a Washington-proposed missile defence scheme.

China to Seek Satellites From Non-U.S. Sources Following Ban
Beijing, Feb. 24

Washington forbid the sale of two satellites and other communications equipment worth about $500 million to a Singapore- based consortium controlled by Chinese state-run companies because of concern the network would enhance the Chinese military's command and control communications.

The U.S. objected to the presence of several military- controlled companies in the consortium. These included a company linked to China Aerospace Corp., which builds China's rockets and missiles, and another owned by the army's main weapons trading arm.
