"Wall Street Journal reports that only 10% of the bids result in a sale."

The WSJ article reminds us that the company is in it's early stages of growth, not necessarily that it's not going to be successful.

I think the 10% statistic says to me there are Morons out there who think just because they bid $50, they should be able to fly to europe round trip. So is this a condemnation of Priceline, or the "something for nothing" mentality that is pervasive on the 'net? I'll assume the latter.

"If you think this is a sound business model, think again."

You know, a comment like that based on a single article drives me batty. I'd respect it more if it were based on more evidence. But it represents "shoot from the hip" analysis that is prevalant with many posters.

I thought about it again, and yes it can be an extremely sound business model. 10% can still be a huge revenue stream in the internet, it just depends on what the 10% is based on.

Curious. Does anyone lament the fact that Amazon only closes business with 5% of the users hitting their site?
