My advice to you would be to sell most of your position if you get about $ 16 today. VLSI has till Next Wednesday to reject the $ 17 offer. At that time there will be a short term sell off, pending further news, which may not come for a while! Small time stock holders like you and me don't matter a diddly squat to Al and his gang and some of the big cheese share holders. They will go for whatever decorates their palm in any deal. Throw in a commission and a brokerage house will suck anything to push the merger or deal. After next Wednesday you may be able to buy it back below $ 14 or $ 13, if the offer gets nixed, which is very likely, since Philips is buying them on the cheap! If another White Knight comes over with $ 20+, then it is a double Whammy for you. You would have made money today and again in the next upswing. If $ 17 gets accepted and you get out at $ 16, you just lost a buck, which isn't much. After the purchase (if it is with Philips share, who nows where Philips shares are going to head, probably down, since US markets don't know much about Philips. They use words like "Giant company like Philips". You and I know that European companies are "fat" and inefficient, when they use words like "Giant". VLSI and Al will look like angels compared to Philips' slow moving management that will write off the deal using a smart accountant and their shares won't go up for a while!) appreciation will be minimal. Make hay while the sun shines!
