1) I was at a presentation where the VP at CFCN (I think he has alot to do with Baton because he seemed pretty sure of their support) and CY presented their concept. In summary they give connections away free. Users install software to connect. Software displays ads in addition to ads you see on internet sites. CFCN and CY will sell these ad spaces. Not sure on revenue split. Presentation good until CY President (Merchia) got up. Sounded like a tech in a monkey suit. I was with 6 people and on the way out comments ranged from "stoned" to "monotone and boring." None of the group have bought ad space on 3web yet. Two are considering but waiting.

2) Number of viewers is obviously important. One press release said they have 50,000 (I assume on Calgary operational now, PRs keep refering to Edmonton up in March) and that they expesct to be biggest ISP (Western Canada? Canada?) by June 99.

3) Web site says they do software development and web site design in addition to providing free interent access. Do not know who their clients are or if this is profitable part of business.

4) As you can tell, I do not know what their main focus is. The 3web seems to be their main focus. In fairness they sold ad revenue rights in Calgary for $4m and in Edmonton for $2.5? M (I think that was the final figure).

5) Every once in a while there is an article in local papers. They should not let Merchia do interviews either. He actually said that a group from the University approached CY with idea of giving it away free to their students. Merchia was quoted "we never would have thought of this in a million years." Starving students, free access, perfect demongraphics, your right, that was a tough one to come up with.

That's about all I know at this time.
