Yeh what a joke trading today is

IT's enough to make you want to go out and buy some INTC and CPQ calls and some FORE stock. But I have my hoarded cash to think about.

The biggest joke of course is that the Internet stocks are going up today. These guys really live on some other planet!

Much of the day's worst damage was seen in shares of the established players in the technology

Much of the day's worst damage was seen in shares of the established players in the technology sector such as well-known computer chip companies and personal computer makers.

''This is a tech wreck,'' said a senior equity trader at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson.

The sell-off in the group was sparked by a some negative comments from Wall Street analystsimed at two high-profile companies, Compaq imed at two high-profile companies, Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news) and Micron Technology Corp. (NYSE:MU - news).

Citing slow sales in the early part of 1999, analysts at Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse First Boston trimmed their first quarter earnings outlook for Compaq, the world's leading personal computer maker. In addition, PaineWebber lowered its rating on the company.

Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs cut Micron from its recommended list, citing valuation concerns.
