You make a good point BUT:
The market feels left behind from their "slowness" to react to DELL, CSCO and MSFT (their multiples notwithstanding) and has been too eager in 1998 to award the kinds of multiples to a few stocks expecting the best.
AMZN DOES NOT MAKE MONEY! Furthermore, it might never.
I should also say that I'm long the stock and am hoping for the best.

Also, your point is baseless if people are buying on margin.

AMZN will have a market cap over 100 bi llion dollars within the
next 5 years. It doesn't matter whether you buy at 100 or 125 if
your time horizon is 5 years. Remeber DELL in 1992, CSCO in 1993,
AOL in 1991. Does it matter at what prices you bought those stocks

One cannot compare AMZN to CSCO and DELL. Both turned a profit from the beginning. Neither had a negative tangible book value. Let's be a little real here.
