John: I don't think Dell's missed couple hundred million dollars in revenue in Q4 due to any weakness in demand in January as you suggest, we know from listening to MD and TM that it wasn't an issue of lack of demand but rather Dell's unwillingness to be a bit more aggressive in pricing. This is entirely different from what has happened to CPQ in Jan according to their own admission, they said sales in the U.S and Europe were a bit weak period,I don't think this has anything to do with Dell. It appears to me that this has more to do with Compaq's ability to execute than anything else.

PS:Actually come to think of it might be that CPQ stuffed the 'turkey' like crazy to come with the numbers in Q4 so much so that they couldn't ship any more to the channels in Jan.I think this is the real issue, matter of fact you can bank on it.
