NEW YORK, Feb 26 (Reuters) - PaineWebber analyst Don Young
downgraded Compaq Computer Corp. Friday to hold from buy,
citing weakness in the No. 1 personal computer maker's sales
during the first six weeks of the current quarter.
-- Young pointed to PC shipments by manufacturers into
distributor channels that showed high inventories of Compaq
products, while sales out of channels to corporate or retail
customers appeared on track, his associate said
.
-- No further details were immediately available.
-- By mid-afternoon, Compaq stock had fallen $5.62 to
$35.37 in extremely heavy composite U.S. stock exchange trading
of 57 million shares.
