Compaq Signs Linking Agreement with PhotoLoft.com

AltaVista to offer link to online photo service

HOUSTON, August 11, 1998 - Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced an agreement to create a link between its powerful AltaVista Search service and PhotoLoft.com, an online photo album and digital imaging commerce center ( photoloft.com ). The agreement was signed in conjunction with the transfer of the domain name altavista.com from AltaVista Technology, Inc. to Compaq , also announced today.

Beginning in mid-August, millions of users worldwide will be able to post photos and create their own personal electronic photo albums by visiting AltaVista at altavista.digital.com and by clicking on the "Services" area of the AltaVista site. Both the PhotoLoft software and the PhotoLoft account are free of charge.
