<Intel has very low base salaries. The compensation package is largely dependent on earnings growth, which is constantly in question these days.>

Funny you should mention that. I know a former coworker who left Intel months ago and join up with Sequent. This was before INTC skyrocketed from the 80's to the 120's and 130's. Meanwhile, Sequent stock is still struggling to stay in the teens. It's all timing, I suppose.

Meanwhile, I've seen an article which says that some top Microsoft programmers are very unmotivated because their stock options already made them millionaires. Kind of weird, huh?

Oh well. At least Intel has earnings growth, unlike one of our competitors whose CEO gets his stock options repriced. (I don't want to mention any names, of course.)

I agree with John Hull that some of your posts are not accurate. Our cash bonuses are not dependent on earnings growth at all (but do depend on earnings period). We receive two types of cash bonuses: one is calculated from the gross margin percentage, while the second is based on a combination of success against goals, EPS, and an individual scale factor based on employee performance. While these bonuses don't depend on earnings growth, they do provide a significant incentive to the employees, which in turn leads to earnings growth.

Also, my base salary cannot be met by other employers in my area - I've checked. ;-)
