Let me try a different approach to this.

1. Engineers are prone to believe (rightly or wrongly) things like "RISC will kick x86's rear end".

2. Therefore, engineers generally expect Intel to soon be in decline. My posts are a good example of this phenomenon.

3. Therefore, engineers tend to be suspicious of the prospects for future earnings growth at Intel.

4. Therefore, engineers are cautious about a salary which is largely based on earnings growth by Intel.
