Webdrone:

I just bought 29 Apple 37.5 calls today at 1, mainly because I was thinking along the same lines as you. Also, I think it was dragged down today for because it is a PC maker vs. anything Apple is doing wrong. (Look at how hard GTW tanked, for instance.)

I don't understand the Zacks release today. Apple reported earnings last month, so why does it say .78 cent earnings???

It is on the wires now....here is part of it...

Point is, nothing sells like success.

Web,

I have seen the future, and it is a tangerine iMac hooked up to a cable modem (just like the setup in front of me as I write this).

iMac: $1246 (RevB, includes $98 for FedEx priority overnight shipping)
@Home: $150 one-time installation fee, $39.95/month (that monthly fee replaces my charges for an ISP and a dedicated phone line).

I threw in another $75 bucks for an additional 32MB RAM, and I'm flyin'.

I've used IBM, Compaq, Gateway, HP, and any number of Apple machines to surf the 'Net over the years (plugging along on my poor little SE FDHD running Mosaic some 10 years ago--paid over $2,500 for THAT machine), and I can honestly say that this iMac is just a whole lot of FUN!! I love it. I know how to configure these Macs manually for 'Net access, if need be, but I'll be damned if this entire experience with the iMac hasn't been the most trouble-free computing I've ever known (and that means a lot coming from a longtime Apple user). A six-month refresh rate on this machine by Apple is going to keep them flying out of stores, particularly once Apple starts rolling out those dope RevC plastics.

But don't take my word for it. Collect all five!

Beauty, thy name is iMac.

Mark

PS Rah rah rah!

<<They are almost giving apple away, at these prices. >>

True, but I also like to look at the industry as a whole.

Today's Wall Street Journal Page A3

The boxmaker industry is slowing down.

Percentage in change of PC revenue has gone down:

1995 up over 30 percent
1996 up 40 percent
1997 up around 6 percent
1998 up around 2 percent

Peak in demand is waning and the PC makers are estimating revenue increase of around 2 percent for 1999.

Unit sale growth is also slowing. Boxmakers optimistically looking at unit sales growth at maybe 13 percent for 1999 (growth for PC boxes was around 10 percent for 1998 down from 25 percent in 1995 and around 16 percent in 1997.
*************

I think Apple's best bet is to catch the upgrade cycle on PC boxmakers in 1999.

The article also pointed out that unsold inventories are sitting in warehouses for average of 40 days. Up from 34 days last year.
