Ari and DRT--here's some interesting week-end reading. Several new fuel cell ventures are about to materialize, for so called "fixed" location power generation capacity (including the Plug Power technology that uses natural gas). These small-to-medium sized power plants will enable electrical generation that is both quiet, cost competitive with standard power generation (7-10 cents per kwh), and will be capable of being installed in millions of locations world wide presently without easy or any access to existing power grids. Of course, all PEM and carbonate fuel cells use PT as reaction catalyst. While PD is not ordinarily used in this technology, most estimates I've read is that the total production of PD for the foreseeable future will be used by auto catalytic converters. These developments simply reinforce the fact that demand for PGEs is mushrooming wherever one chooses to look.

BTW, look at the following chart for the recent activity in one of the two principles which formed the Plug Power joint venture, MKTY.
