VLSI designs ASIC's (Application Specific Integrated Circuits). The tools designer's use to verify and fab the designs are provided by companies such as Mentor Graphics, Synopsys and Cadence. VLSI designs their own circuits but they can be a foundry for other companies such as Ericson Communicationswhere Ericson provides VLSI with a design database and VLSI(using Mentor tools or others) will fab the design and deliver the IC to their customer.
