Now that is a mighty astute question, Violetta! -- Diamond exploration really can be a complicated, and an evolving, industry for us plain investors to try and fathom! Thusly, myself being unqualified to really address that question adequately, I queried the mind of Marum's president Rick Boulay, and he was, as per usual, graciously accommodating.

I shall translate his comments here for us investors...

These particular targets are pipe targets, so we hope to encounter a volcanic, preferably a "kimberlite" pipe. However, any kind of pipe containing diamonds would be appreciated. We assume we are looking for kimberlites but we don't know for sure. We have not been able to directly confirm the existence of kimberlite pipes in Alberta, although there are certainly a lot of diamond-bearing volcanic pipes as discovered by Ashton and Montello/Kennecott. The diamond-bearing Mountain Lake pipe discovered by Monopros does not appear to be a kimberlite and it is certainly possible that none of the Alberta pipes are kimberlites. No one knows for sure yet, even though Ashton have published a paper referring to their pipes as kimberlites. We just don't know.
As long as they contain diamonds, the alert explorer will not care if they are kimberlites, alnoites, lamproites, lamprophyres, harzburgites or any other mantle derived volcanic rock. Since the province is still in its early exploration stage we have to investigate all magnetic features which are circular or elliptical and which display a distinct magnetic signature whether positive or negative. So far, most of the pipes discovered in Alberta have positive magnetic profiles although a few have negative signatures. Its possible that only a very small percentage are the positive ones and the great majority will have different magnetic signatures, or no distinct magnetic signature at all. Its still very early in this exploration play and we are investigating all promising leads. /
