Mr A

I understand your plan as a hypothetical G* User. Reasonable also in Auckland. There are deadspots. Always.

But here we are talking about a perfection of a service. I am quite happy with my GSM coverage except when I go Sailing more than 10nm off shore. Is this worth changing for at US$1/min retail for g* vs $US10c/min? Even at a lesser price it is SLOW growth with many SP sales reps having to convince many companies & individuals to change their phones etc to take advantage of this marginal benefit.

G* is a revolutionary and VERY expensive (in terms of start up costs) technology. It would make sense to me to focus on the business that can provide the most immediate volume growth where this technology does not yet have to compete with existing systems. In my mind that is fixed station service in China and other such places.

I am not sure where exactly, but somewhere back in the thread, someone quoted BS as listing this market as number 3 medium term priority.

My question is still WHY? Am I missing something?
