Tom-- AMZN the brand IS worth something. What will it fetch at auction?

GST,

You are assuming that when AMZN fails, they will let their customer know that they cannot supply whatever goods that are being ordered. It has happened in the past in retail where a firm tries to continue and people place an order but find the order does not show. The credit card of the customer has been billed. Then the company folds and the customer has to use their institution to reimburse them for the charge on their card. The instituion will do that since it is in the card agreement but this takes time and requires a lot of correspondence on the part of the customer. Once this occurs and the media carries the stories, the trade name become worthless even when it is bought by a reputable company. The perception of the trade name is don't buy there. W. T. Grant company comes to mind and notice no one bought that name.
