No, I believe FireWire is the same as the newer 1394 and it is kind of becoming the standard for connecting peripheral devices to PC's like Camcorders, etc...

FC is the next stage in storage. It is both a network and I/O channel. Basically, just think of it as the next thing after SCSI. Now FC will start appearing on RAIDs and such as it becomes more popular. FC is superior to SCSI in many ways such as its faster, works at longer distances, works with many more devices, can throw IP over it as well as SCSI, ATM, Ethernet. It will be a synonym with SANs in the near future (over next several years), in my opinion.
