QuentR: Why such a hit? I think that the market was looking for an excuse to sell off, in general. The tech sector and especially boxmakers have been very jittery since the DELL results. It is clear from their statements that the analysts have been , too. They looked to COMPAQ to find out whether the DELL problem was industry wide. Did you notice that ML has changed its view three times in a week, two times yesterday. It held the view last week that DELL's problems were company specific. Yesterday morning it released its report stating that DELL's problems appeared to be industry wide. Then in the early afternoon, having spoken to HWP IBM GTW and others, it changed its mind again and said that COMPAQ's problems were company-specific.

QuentR,

CPQ is supposed to announce their Direct Done Right and
DirectPartner programs anytime now. According to reports,I believe
they were supposed to start that last week. I think they delayed
them to finish ironing out these reseller problems before it
exploded during those programs (IMO).The consequences of having
to stop everything later would be devastating as credibility
is an on going problem now.
I believe CPQ and Dell were achieving parity until yesterday.
Cpq held at 35 and perhaps that will bode well and as the
analysts reports are digested, Cpq should rebound a bit.
