Re AOL and sticky portals...

Is isn't exactly proprietary and it isn't costly, dollar wise, but the one issue that comes up over and over again when I try to convert my AOL friends from a $19.95 schlock-filled ISP to a $10 per month "pure" Internet connection is their aversion to losing their email address.

Let me make a contentious statement: AOL is not a technology company. It uses technology, it does not produce, invent or develop technology. It provides services and is a technology consumer.

If we are discussing technology Gorillas, AOL is out of scope.
