After about a gazilion tests run on a supercomputer a few years ago, they discovered that the only meaninful stochastic was a 39 period as it crossed above 40%, and was worthless for negative reversals. I have heard a lot of folks clain to use them intraday, and I have looked at it in detail and found nothing useful. Its no substitute for basic trendlining - even intraday, as stochastics are a lagging indicator. FWIW

I use stochastics on real time stock tick charts and they are very helpful at visualizing a stocks short term movement..by short term I mean daytrading..five to 10 minute intervals. I NEVER buy a stock for daytrading without looking at the stochs carefully...definitely makes a big difference for me.
