Glenn, do you know who is the leading online music retailer? I can't seem to find any stats on that. I still buy things from CD-now vs. Amazon because my car only has a cassette player.

In one of the qtrly statements Amazon claimed to be the fastest growing music retailer, that I believe.

Attention, Internet Shoppers

To the Editor
Joseph Cianci (Mailbag, February 15) states that as Amazon.com grows, it
will be compared with Sears, Kmart, etc. That's the problem.

Recently, Amazon had a market cap (online "investors" please look this term
up in the dictionary) of $15.99 billion, compared with Sears' $15.75 billion,
Kmart's $8.44 billion, JC Penney's $9.84 billion and May Department Stores'
$13.47 billion.

I think Amazon is a great company but my worry is that, when it does start to
make money, it will be valued as a traditional retailer. That looks like a lot of
downside risk to me.

As to Cianci's comment that Wal-Mart should buy Amazon, Wal-Mart didn't
get where it is by buying overpriced assets. I doubt it will start now.

Please tell Joseph Cianci that Wal-Mart doesn't need Amazon.com to be the
Wal-Mart of the Internet. Wal-Mart already has a wonderful site
(www.wal-mart.com) with many items not available in all its stores. When
looking for a CD of Spanish Christmas carols, which no local Detroit chain
music store stocked, Wal-Mart online had six choices. Their return procedure
is also very user-friendly.
