Negative Q1 preannouncements will be good for equities also, because they'll lower expectations and lead to 100% positive surprises. Second half should be real barn burner since there was no earnings growth in '98 (easy comps). This should all be discounted within 3-4 weeks and Dow could easily top 12,000 by the time Uncle Sam needs to get paid. (That could lead to 2-3% pullback, the last good buying opportunity until 2013.) Then things could be a bit rough--maybe as much as 10% correction. Hold off buying gold stocks until late 2012.
