The Oracle Novell deals of late are just there to help each other out. I dont think there is much more into it other than Novell gets more ISV commitment to NDS and Oracle gets to leverage NDS's leadership in the industry.

The two companies have always been good partners. I would even consider the two companies to be loyal friends in the industry. They have worked on Application Development, Database, platform, and DS fronts. This is just another sign of their loyal friendship which scratches each others back.

NOVL's near term direction is to sever the integrated relationship between Btrieve and the DS architecure. They need to move to a more open Datastore that is much more scaleable than Btrieve. Oracle's relational DBMS will be the first. Look for MSFT's SQL server to also be a supported datastore and longer down the line, IBM's UDB and then Sybase. Those would be my predictions and order of alliance to NDS.

If people are thinking that Oracle and NOVL are potential Merger candidates, I dont think so. They are just loyal industry partners.

Thanks Peter,

I think that we could hear more about NOVL-ORCL..

BTW, I see you are considering options. How about Jan 20's? Now that earnings games are over the solid momentum will continue to build as the street major players start to make NOVL moves. Expect to see a run up as brainshare approaches and NOVL starts to make announcements of its own Internet investments..

Cheers

Victor
