<Americans: Encourage being mistaken for Canadians when abroad.>

ROFLMAO - I did just that when I back-packed thru Europe in the 70's!!!

Many Europeans (back then) thought America was paved with gold. I spent several months over there on $3.50/day. Obviously my road wasn't paved with gold. When negotiating prices, Americans always were at a disadvantage. Plus the whole Viet Nam thing caused so much antagonism - just wasn't worth the hassle.

I never would have thought of doing this. It was a Canadian I met in my travels ...

Another thing I learned ... if you got picked up in Munich ... for sleeping in the train station ... DON'T pay the fine with cash. Tell them you have to wait until the American Express office is open before you can cash Traveller's Cheques. This way you have a nice, warm bed ... and breakfast in jail until that AmEx office opens. (It was cheaper than a mediocre hotel room. And the guards were pretty nice guys.) Otherwise, you're back roaming the streets at 2AM.

Ah. What fond memories.

Cheryl
