You are absolutely wrong.

If LSI worth $26, I do not understand why VLSI worth only $17, thinking about the balance sheet of both companies and product lines.

Philips is just trying to take advantage and buy cheap.

I would rather hold till the end of this year when stock hits $30+ than settle for this offer at $17 .

My bet is , if this offer can go through , the final settled price will not be $17 , but $25+. And I see Philips wants VLSI communication product lines.

If you look at the trading pattern of Friday, you will see :

15 millions shares changed hands, and the stock price was never lower than $15.
This indicated that there are more people want the shares at the price of over
$15. If people expect the deal will go through at $17, then the volume will
not be so huge at $15+, because from $15 to $17, you profit margin is 13%.
For 13% of profit, it did not worth the risk, because if the deal did not go through and no counter offer , the stock price may drop to $12. So someone knew
something, and my bet is the final settled price will probably be over $25+.

We will see a price war in the next one to two weeks. and $17 is just the starting offer.
