Brian, re China Telecom. I thought a significant comment was on the Stategy page:

Expand Network Capacity and Coverage

In anticipation of increases in subscriber demand, the Group plans to continue to expand its
network coverage and to add network capacity, with an emphasis on rapidly developing its
GSM networks and further improving and optimizing its TACS networks. The Group intends to
use the 10 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz frequency band which was allocated to it by the
DGT to add capacity in certain high density areas, such as Guangzhou, Hangzhou and
Shenzhen, beginning in 1998. The Group is planning to expand its networks to provide total
capacity for approximately 7.5 million subscribers in Guangdong and approximately 3.2 million
subscribers in Zhejiang by the end of 2000.

Non-mention of CDMA suggests to me that they might wait until 3G, anticipating that it will be backward compatible with the GSM installations. Or, am I misunderstanding this and reading too much into it?

Also, this reads like it may have been written some time ago, although the site is recent.
