Jim, >>>One thing that bothers me is I'm not the least bit excited about the P-III. My wife thinks I'm a computer nut. Not long ago that was true, but not anymore. <<<

We get older and our passions change. Your wife can probably relate to that <gggg>. But, life goes on and if you look back a little you will see another generation with the same passions you once had when you were younger.

>>>The sad fact is I don't NEED a faster computer for the programs that I use.<<<

I think Intel has figured that out when they embarked on their market segmentation strategy. Different strokes for different folks.
Besides, just as we are not all at the same stage of life, computer users are not all at the same stages of their computer life. There are a lot of 286, 386's, and 486's out there that people find useful. But eventually these PCs will not be able to handle the most current programs that do even the simple things like word processing and email. The reason why many of these systems are still around is because, the owners, when they bought them paid the highest price and got the latest and greatest that technology had to offer.

For them to replace it with something that is not the latest technology would be somewhat like people who will always eat yesterday's bread. There are many people that could afford to eat fresh bread, but for them yesterdays bread is just as good.

Same with computer users, there will always be people satisfied and happy with yesterdays technology or with something that is almost as good as what the latest offerings are from the leader in the business.

Well, somehow Intel has figured this out and they are out there fighting to get the customer equivalent who is satisfied with yesterday's bread. They are going to fight to win that market with product offerings equivalent to fresh bread at yesterdays prices.

>>>One thing that bothers me is I'm not the least bit excited about the P-III.<<<

Besides, It is unlikely that Intel will be standing still. The P-III next year this time is not going to be the same PIII that came out Friday or whenever.

Regards,

Mary
