Hi Eric,
<I hope you not one of those who really believes that BS line about all gold ever mined is
still in circulation. Attrition and obsolescence of plated items alone accounts for
thousands of ounces at a physical complete loss.>

I agree with you, anyone who believes that BS has never looked at his/her weddingband after being worn for 25 years.Of course most of the men's rings end up in a drawer and show not that much wear;but I have repaired thousands of ladies rings whose bottom part was lost into gold dust, never to be recycled, or recovered forever. The same for many gold items which are worn daily, like chains and gold teeth(these latter only recoverable by dictators).Besides to say that the gold mined up to now is available for trade is sheer non sense, just as one can not say that 1 million houses are for sale in a country just because they are there. Most of that is not for sale at ANY PRICE.

Well said sir! I have posted here before that near every "smart" missile & bomb used today ty the US has around 1/5 to 1/10 oz of gold plating on contacts & in wiring. With all due respect to Ole 49r and others in he relm, me thinks it would be rather hard to recover the gold from the deserts and swamps where these exploded.

also, my father was treated with gold salts during the last 18 years of his life. my mom(an RN) laid pencil to paper and found these injections added up to near 2/3 oz!

Eric <<Yes, but it has been absorbed and dispersed. You cannot purchase it back on a whim>>

I agree - but because it's been dispersed it's not a threat on the supply side unless there's a huge run up in price and we get into dishoarding.

I agree that some gold is consumed and lost - but a high proportion of gold ever mined must still be around - even as gold leaf in churches around the world. dd
