Thanks. You have explained in elegant technological terms what I was trying to say in simplistic terms. Net result. The market for carrying data on the electric grid is potentially very large in Europe and in countries around the world which do not have the north american transformer hurdle. Only time will tell how successful/widespread this method will be. And this still leaves huge possibilities for wireless where wires are or not. Chaz

For a moment there, Tim, I thought that your discussion drifted back to HFC...

>It is nice not to be on a big common neighborhood bus with your premises data streams.<

Perhaps the basic approach is wrong. That is, instead of expecting the traffic to traverse the transformer, maybe some form or CDMA on the subscriber side of the discontinuit (the fat inductor) could be used for transport up to that point, and tapped off and sent on to a fiber backbone. This is dubious, I know, but it makes more sense to me (it allows for the reuse of the three phasa to the home, just like a VDSL in the SDV model) than the alternative that has already been discussed.

PC-->Mod-->cdma/elect. power line-->field node-->f-o/b-b--->Head End

Does this topology look vaguely familiar?

BTW, you, along with Dave Horne, Dr. Levy and a few others have been posting some outstanding material here during the past week or two. This thread should be required reading, no... make that required participation, for any student or business apprentice entering this field. I know some ILEC and MSO managers who could also benefit from participating here.

Best Regards, Frank Coluccio
