Seagate Hopes To See Impact Of Shift To Storage In 1, 2 Yrs

SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Disk-drive maker Seagate Technology Inc. (SEG) hopes to feel the impact of a shift to storage networking within one to two years, an executive in Singapore said Monday.

Don Kennedy, Seagate vice president for Asia sales and marketing, said Monday the manufacturer is well-positioned to take advantage of the information technology industry's shift toward a focus on storage systems.

"The explosion that we see coming is probably over the next 12 to 24 months," he said. "The more that this market proliferates, the more of our high-performance products that we'll sell. As the market for this product grows, it will certainly help our bottom line."

U.S.-based Seagate has its regional headquarters in Singapore, which manages manufacturing in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and China.

Kennedy said Seagate already has the products available to participate in this shift to storage.

The executive declined to comment on current operations, other than to repeat that Seagate plans to recapture market share that it lost when International Business Machines (IBM) entered the market a year ago.
