Even Greenspan in his testimony stated that it is unlikely that commodities are going to continue their downtrend at the brutal pace they have been.

I usually read these kinds of statements by AG as a tacit statement that the Fed doesn't want to see commodities descend further in an abrupt manner. He wants price stability, and if possible, a gradual decline in prices.

The only way he will get this is to add liquidity (pump more dollars into the market).

I tend to believe that the CRB and gold would be lower were it not for the Fed's intervention to prevent a collapse in the precious metals. A collapse would create a signal that we were failing to reinflate the global economy and heading into deflation and then depression.

I heard Mo Ansari ( compak.com ) discussing that Platinum usually climbs in price at this time as the Russian's continue to play their game of limiting supply, hiking prices, and then selling into the price upswing. He seems to think that any price climbs are a selling opportunity.

Regards,

Ron
