Long distance charges for internet access. Don't get me wrong,I'm not saying this isn't happening, can't happen, or won't happen, but if it did it would kill the internet dead. I can't imagine the powers that be doing something like that with all the money at stake in making it work. This is talking about a situation where the government was so far out of control that it wanted to shut down the whole internet. That might could be if some of the doomsday stories out there unfold. It also might happen if there were a technology out there (such as continuous access through the cable) which it was deemed necessary to have and they wanted to pressure people into adopting it by giving them little choice. Otherwise this is just some red herring or some far out congressman wanting publicity.
