The histogram is the vertical bar section in a MACD chart. When they point above the mid-line, the price action is positive and vice versa below the line. When a hemisphere shift correlates with a red-blue line cross, you have a clear MACD signal.

BigCharts won't give me NDX data back far enough, but running the main NASDAQ index would have yielded a buy in December around 2100 and sell in mid-January at 2350. Then it's too inconclusive to trade until the close near 2400 in early February, where I would have shorted. That position is still shown as a hold despite the temporary uptick to 2400 later in February.

I had some $$$ in BEARX but I didn't like the way it was dragging along. This looks like a much more lucrative use for those funds (trading the Q in small lots only).
