Jim, Re: When do you expect the earnings downside warning?

Based on the past experiences about Intel's pre-warning(up
or down), there will not be one for Q1. Most likely, it will
be just as they predicted in the Q4 report.

Earnings warning? Good luck with that one.
The shipments of PIII have started. This is a higher margin product. Might actually offset slow downs in cheap PCs.IMHO.

As soon as the PIII got released, i bet demand for PCs just got a big boost. No wonder there was a slowdown in January and February---a lot of buyers were waiting for the PIII. Intel would have started shipping these mid February so the PC makers could start selling now.

Compaq had denied there was a inventory glut in the system. So what does that mean? Retail channels wanted to wait for the PIII to some degree thereby causing slowdowns in shipments from Compaq and others.

McMannis - Re: "When do you expect the earnings downside warning?"

I don't.

I just don't think "big profits" from the Pentium III will show up instantaneously.

The end of the third quarter and fourth quarter will be the time for this - big profits - to occur.
