It's always hard to tell in this area what should be taken seriously, and what dismissed as quackery. Aspirin--so useful in so many ways--is derived from tree bark, after all. The best painkiller research going on today stems from the study of taking diluted amounts of animal venom. Seems to work. I guess all we can go on is what Ronald Reagan used to say: "Trust, but verify."

Burzynski Research Institute

catalog.com

There is an "NCI Report on Antineoplastons" there (1991). Several clinical trials involving the related compound Phenylacetate are also underway. The FDA has been hassling Burzynski for years on various charges including interstate commerce of an unapproved drug.

Observe, down at the bottom of the page:

Burzynski Research Institute is a publicly-traded, fully-reporting company (BZYR, traded on the Bulletin Board system).

Last trade, Thursday @ 5/32.
